At Long Last

Education Secretary, Fiona Hyslop has announced that Skills Development Scotland are to abolish the age limit for apprenticeships in the hospitality sector.

At present, as we are all very much aware the upper age limit for apprenticeships that get public funds is 20. Hospitality Training has been communicating the concerns of our industry locally to the Scottish Parliament, and our Sector Skills Council, People First, and at long last the message seems to have filtered through.

Education secretary Fiona Hyslop said yesterday the decision to open the scheme to applicants of all ages within the hospitality industry would double the number of places available to about 600. It is not yet clear when the funding will be made available, or how many places will be allocated to Grampian, however as soon as we have a clearer indication of how to proceed we will let our members know.
