Karen Black

Karen joined Hospitality Training in June 1996, bringing with her extensive training experience gained through a variety of training and development roles within the Hospitality industry.

Karen is the General Manager of our Group Training Association. She is passionate about supporting people and the development of skills within the industry. Spanning over 20 years in the Hospitality Sector, Karen has worked for a variety of organisations and clients, including the Disney Corporation, Stakis Hotels, The Gleneagles Hotel, Macdonald Hotels, Grampian Police, Scottish Enterprise, and Aberdeen City Council to name but a few.

Karen is accredited to deliver a variety of courses, including Food Safety, Health and Safety, and Training and Development. She believes that training should be dynamic and interactive, thus ensuring that learners and clients get the most value out of their time, and financial investment.

Karen Hurrel

Karen joined Hospitality Training in March 2002 since this time, as Office Manager she has been involved in a number of key initiatives including the retention of the Scottish Quality Management, and Investors in People standards.

Her remit covers a diverse range of activities including accountancy, course programming, staff training, and management of office systems and procedures.

Previously Karen was employed in the Oil and Gas sector, and has extensive experience in client led support service provision. Her ability to work both strategically and at an operational level has helped to ensure on-going high quality of service delivery to our members and clients.

Jayne Kinnear

Jayne's expertise is in the delivery and development of Vocational Qualifications in the Hospitality sector. With industry experience mainly from a fast track management career, Jayne has held a variety of roles, including personal responsibility for over 250 staff in a luxury hotel with the Human Resources Department.

She joined Hospitality Training in November 1995, and is currently Deputy Manager. Jayne has developed management, and customer care courses for both private and public sector companies, and was recently instrumental in the delivery of the Top Taxi ESF funded pilot for Aberdeen City Council. Her clients include Grampian Police, and Macdonald Hotels.

Jayne's delivery style is highly interactive and focuses on the learners enjoyment of the programme, linking closely to the transfer of ideas and skills to the workplace. Her style has encouraged her learners to successfully complete their programme of study, and achieve their career objectives.

Audrey Kirkpatrick

Audrey has over 20 years experience in both Hospitality and Retail, and has held a variety of positions in the UK and abroad. Audrey's career has been, for the most part, based in large multi national organisations including Holiday Inn and Sainsbury's. She has a sound knowledge of all departments within the hotel and catering sector, and has a keen interest in, Kitchen Management, Rooms Management, and Front of House. Audrey delivers courses in these occupational areas, and her style is highly interactive and flexible in its approach to learners and their work based challenges.

She works closely with our Modern Apprenticeship clients and believes that training should be about helping people to find ways of using their individual ability to achieve success. Audrey excels in managing learning programmes through our subcontracted training unit at Aberdeen College, and since joining Hospitality Training in April 2006 has augmented the service and support available to our members and learners.

Gerard Rattray

Gerard joined Hospitality Training in 2005, having worked in a range of hotel and restaurant environments. In addition to being an experienced trainer, Gerard has held various senior management roles. Through running companies on behalf of well known local employers he has a thorough knowledge of how businesses and people work, and has first hand experience of the practical issues that affect managers in our industry.

He as an excellent rapport with his learners and clients, and his relaxed, yet compelling approach encourages successful achievement of qualifications across all our learning programmes. Gerard supports a variety of clients from small to medium enterprises, and international support service organisations in Oil and Gas. He favours programmes that can really make a difference to peoples' employability and quality of life.

Gerard is accredited to deliver a variety of courses including ServeWise and Personal Licence Holders Qualification. Participants enjoy his "learner centred approach" which gives learners the opportunity to experiment through practical exercises and discussions.

Angela Fowlie

Angela had over 10 years’ experience working with a National Training Provider, delivering a variety of qualification frameworks within the Hospitality Sector, before joining Hospitality Training in 2011.

Since graduating from Robert Gordon’s University, Angela has worked for the Monument Leisure Group and Macdonald Hotels in a number of roles. She has enjoyed a successful career in Hotel Management, and through working with Hospitality Training’s clients and learners, enjoys putting something back into our industry using her training expertise.
